My life has been devoted to playing and composing for the guitar in all its various shapes and styles and I really do love teaching people how to play the Guitar.
In my 40 years as a Guitar Teacher I’ve taught people from 6 to 86 and it can be a slow process at first but soon we see the teaching and your hours of practice kick in and hey presto!
A Guitarist is Born.
The Trick to Teaching Guitar:
1. Always have in mind the student’s ultimate goal.
2. Never ask them to bite off more than they can chew. (In every lesson they must achieve a ’win’)
3. Be forever patient and inspiring.
The Trick to Learning Guitar:
2. Go down to the Crossroads and sell your soul to the devil.
3. If Trick No. 2 fails, see trick No. 1.
The Styles I Teach:
1. Classical Guitar. (That’s the one I’ve practiced every day for the last 50 years)
2. Blues/Slide/Country/ Country Picking/Folk/Rock. (These styles I used to perform every week)
3. Latin (this is the style I used in my duo with Nick Linnik – String Theory)
4. Improvisation in all of the above styles.
so, everything really except Flamenco or Swing Jazz.

£40 per hour. If you can already play you probably need an hour so that we can really get into it.
£20 per half hour. If you’re aged between 6 and 12 this will be as much as you need.
Teaching in the days of Covid 19:
Before Covid 19 my private teaching was done in my wonderful studio that rests at the bottom of my garden. Times have changes and brought with them the wonders of Skype Teaching. To my surprise Skype Teaching really does work. You don’t have to travel, in fact you can live in Timbuktu for all the Internet cares and the lessons are incredibly focused. No set up. No pack up. Just straight to work.
My Skype invite is below under Contact. Please feel free to accept my invitation.
Please feel free to call for a chat about your individual needs on 07980 822517

“THE most inspirational teacher/ composer I was lucky enough to have during my early years on Guitar“
Simon Kinney-Lewis – Australian Blues Legend
“Roland lit up my inner musician, steadfast in support, generous in spirit – he’s a rare artist – my career has awakened.“
Nina Rideout – Classical Guitarist and recording artist
“Roland is a font of knowledge and his experience across a multitude of musical styles is hard to beat. Aside from all the technical and theoretical aspects of playing (which Roland covers in incredible detail) his skills as a composer are extraordinary. There is something here for everyone.“
